Client: Maggies Centre, Gartnavel Hospital

Client Brief & Solution

Richard Holington of OMA architects contacted Paul to construct the ‘womb room’, a consulting room within the new Maggies center at Gartnavel hospital. He needed someone who would be able to understand his concept and be versatile and capable of working to such a sculptural and random way. Richard’s design used layers of Plywood to creat the shapes.

Paul introduced the idea of using solid wood, the same wood that was in trees all around the building, the overall design concept of the building touched on the location; the center of a small wooded area, thus really connecting with nature.

Paul then developed Richard’s concept to use different thicknesses of the Elm wood to create a more random feel, again keeping towards the tactility of nature.
